The year was 1979.  A little know band from Manchester, England, was about to deliver an album of moody, melancholic despair, the influence of which can still be felt, heard and seen today.  That band was Joy Division and the album was Unknown Pleasures.

To commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Joy Division's seminal debut album, Unknown Pleasures, founding member Peter Hook and Friends will perform the album in its entirety in Australia for the first time.  The epic show will include live performances of all of the songs from the album including She’s Lost Control, New Dawn Fades and Disorder.  Audiences will also be treated to performances of other early Joy Division tracks, as well as the classic non-album singles Transmission and Love Will Tear Us Apart.

The widespread impact of the music of Joy Division can not be overstated. “Even today, the music of Unknown Pleasures and its darkly powerful sentiments echo through the work of contemporary groups such as The Verve, Radiohead, Spiritualized and Primal Scream." (John Oldham, NME)

Released in June 1979, less than 12 months before lead singer Ian Curtis committed suicide, and produced by the legendary Martin Hannett (New Order, Buzzcocks, Stone Roses), tracks from the album have inspired a myriad of covers from artists such as Massive Attack, Moby, The Killers, Grace Jones, Raveonettes and Girls Against Boys.  The album was a huge influence on the comic (and the movie adaption) The Crow, and was voted #3 in the NME Readers All-Time 100 Albums poll.

The fragile and chillingly poignant Love Will Tear Us Apart, is one of the most widely recognised songs of our time.  Voted #1 in the NME 1980s Singles Poll, #1 in the Rolling Stone Critics Best Single of the 1980s and #4 in the Triple J’s Hottest 100 Of All Time, it too has been covered by some of music’s biggest names including The Cure, Broken Social Scene, The Swans, Paul Young, Simple Minds and Nouvelle Vague.

Don’t miss this very special, one-off opportunity to celebrate the achievements of Joy Division, to remember Ian Curtis’ incredible talent and contribution to music, and to indulge in the resinating sounds of Unknown Pleasures.
